Birding Hot Spots

Throughout Michigan there are many locations that, due to unique geographic or botanical features, attract many species of birds. Michigan's unique location nestled in amongst the Great Lakes also provides many locations for migrating birds to rest on their way to and from their nesting sites. The following "hot spots" are the places to visit when you want a guaranteed great day of birding. The ABA Bird Finding Guide: a Birder's Guide to Michigan by Allen T. Chartier and Jerry Ziarno (now out-of-print) lists all of the great birding locations in Michigan, not just the hot spots. Don't forget to visit our Sanctuaries for more great birding.
