Lake Erie Metropark
A great location to view birds in any season, this 1,600-acre park is located along three miles of shoreline of Lake Erie and the Detroit River. It provides a superb location to view the fall hawk migration. If you want to see the largest number of raptors, think in terms of thousands, visit in September. If you are looking for the most species of hawks, then visit in October when 16 regularly occurring species can be seen. Since this park sits where the Detroit River flows into Lake Erie, it is also a good sight to view waterfowl, especially in winter. It is home to Hawk Fest, held on the third weekend of September.
