Surveys, Forms & Data

Surveys, Forms & Data

Michigan Audubon is unique because of its focus on bird conservation and its strong history of citizen science opportunities before the term was even coined.

Because of the invaluable contribution of hundreds of volunteers throughout the state, Michigan Audubon is able to contribute information to both state and nation wide data sets. These dedicated individuals gather data for the various bird counts and surveys sponsored by Michigan Audubon such as the Winter Feeder Survey, Seasonal Surveys, and Migration Counts. Often volunteers participate in more than one count each year.

The Spring Migration Count involves 516 volunteer observers. Over 200 citizen scientists collect and submit data on the birds they see at home or while on birding jaunts for the four Seasonal Surveys conducted annually. The annual Christmas Bird Count includes 77 counts statewide with 1291 field observers. There are more than 400 feeder watchers collecting data each year for the Winter Feeder Survey. All these observations are compiled and reported in the Michigan Audubon's journal Michigan Birds and Natural History.

If you have questions about any citizen science opportunities, please contact us.
