Calling all Michigan Audubon members!!! We have a free members-only webinar for you!

Join your fellow MA members and Dr. Jennifer Lodi-Smith on March 5 at 7 p.m. to delve into The Spark Bird Project, a research initiative designed to gather and share the stories of people’s passion for birds while gaining scientific insights into a critical missing piece in understanding the ecology of birds — birders themselves.

Dr. Lodi-Smith, a Professor of Psychology and Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs at Canisius College in Buffalo, NY, launched The Spark Bird Project “to help better understand who birders are and who potential birders may be — insights that can help shape how organizations engage with birders to the potential benefit of birders, the birding community, and the birds.”

Join the MA birding community and Dr. Lodi-Smith to learn more about the current findings of The Spark Bird Project and share your spark bird experience!

MA MEMBER SPARK BIRD HIGHLIGHT

“My girlfriend and I were camping with another couple in the Grand Canyon, Arizona. My buddy had binos and a bird book. During the weeklong stay, we kept spotting Bullock’s Orioles, and I was hooked on birding. That was in 1980, and I’ve been birding ever since. I like the hikes, ID work, and looking birds up. Birding is a great way to meet new people, enjoy a nature walk, take in pretty scenery, and do all this while being non-consumptive. It’s good for you, the planet, and the birds. Birding is the trifecta of win/win. Now go outdoors and do something.” ~ MA Member Dan J. | Belmont, MI
